About the place

For centuries Salonta was a Reformed town, and its Catholic community is younger. The church was consecrated on 20 August 1876, the feast of King Saint Stephen, to whom it is dedicated, and the parish was founded in 1880. The building is on the list of historic monuments.

The nave is 22 m long and 10 m wide, and the 28 m tower holds three bells. The altarpiece by Elek Szamossy has three tiers: at the bottom King Stephen offers the crown to the Virgin Mary, in the middle is Mary, at the top the Holy Trinity. The interior was renovated in 2011 with the parishioners' donations, when the paintings and statues were also restored.
