About the place

Marghita's first Orthodox church, the Nativity of St John the Baptist on Strada Nicolae Bălcescu, was begun in 1936 and consecrated in 1966. As the congregation grew, the foundation stone of a new church was laid on 6 May 1990, on land donated that same year. The design was led by the Oradea architect Ernest Pafka, in a Byzantine style with modern touches and with balconies arranged like an amphitheatre.

From 2007 services were held in the lower level, and the church was consecrated on 21 October 2018. The roof is copper sheet, the walls are clad in cream and brown clinker brick, and the iconostasis is solid oak, with icons painted by the Vasile Cozma family from Târgu Neamț.
